The Happiness Detective

Pastel promise

It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want — oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!

In photography there is a reality so subtle that it becomes more real than reality.

Pastel Promise

We've come full circle.

Everything is yet again coming to life, including us - the humans.

Forgotten are the long, cold days. Forgotten are the mittens, coats and scarves. The big boots are put away, and colour reemerges. Everything is in bloom; the nature around us and our hearts within us.

Light, love, life.

the big freeze

I wonder if the snow loves the trees and fields, that it kisses them so gently? And then it covers them up snug, you know, with a white quilt; and perhaps it says ‘Go to sleep, darlings, till the summer comes again.
— Lewis Carroll, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
— Oliver Herford

The Big Freeze

Perhaps the universe is expanding.

Perhaps it will one day go cold.

Perhaps we will all one day disappear into nothingness.

But not today. Instead, let's put on our mittens and big boots. Let's walk in the snow and listen as it crackles under our feet. Let's sit by a fire with hot chocolate. Snuggle under a blanket and hibernate for a while. Chase the darkness away with a gazillion candles, and patiently wait for longer and warmer days. They are coming, we know that, we just need to enjoy the moment for a little while longer, and light another candle.

Autumn moods

Now Autumn’s fire burns slowly along the woods and day by day the dead leaves fall and melt.
— William Allingham
I saw old Autumn in the misty morn stand shadowless like silence, listening to silence.
— Thomas Hood

New Beginnings

The moments in between. Those are my favourites. When you have nothing planned and no expectations, where things just unfold naturally. The tiny moments that you might miss if you blink, but that will stay with you for a lifetime if you pay attention. That is what autumn is to me. A brief moment in time, filled with change but at the same time so familiar. Where everything shifts, wilts and decays. Autumn to me isn't the end, but the promise of a new beginning.
